Charlie Rae Young, LM, CPM, CLC is a graduate of the Florida School of Traditional Midwifery and Florida Licensed Midwife (MW276). A Florida native, Charlie was called to Midwifery after her own experience with the over-medicalized model of childbirth. She began her service as a doula by founding Barefoot Birth in 2008, and has worked as a strong advocate for better care for families alongside the Coalition for Improving Maternity Services, The Birth Survey, The Florida Council of Licensed Midwifery, and others. She has attended hundreds of births over the last 15 years, filling a niche with naturally-minded families as well as those who are often marginalized from conventional medical care due to social stigma. She has written for and been featured in SQUAT Birth Journal, Tampa Bay Times, Tampa Tribune, FOCUS Magazine, Radical Doula Blog, and been interviewed for the Tampa NBC Affiliate for her community projects The Barefoot Bus--a fully mobile prenatal care unit operating under the easy access model of care as well as her 501c3 The Community Roots Collective. Charlie's belief is that every family deserves safe and quality care, and hopes to continue to build stronger communities through beautiful births.

When she’s not midwifing you can find Charlie wrangling her two gals Elliot and Rainy, in a hot yoga class, or probably floating in or on some body of water deep in the Florida wilderness.

Johanna Lancaster, MS, CNM, WHNP-BC, EFM-C is a certified nurse midwife and women’s health nurse practitioner. She is passionate about helping women and their families to lead healthier and happier lives, especially in underserved communities. Johanna was brought to women’s health through her own experiences giving birth twice with the help of midwives, and by assisting with a birth to an indigenous teenage mother in the Amazon jungle of Peru, while on an assignment as a photographer.

After 16 years of working as a professional photographer and adjunct professor, Johanna changed her career and started working in healthcare, as a nurse aide, while completing her Bachelor of Science in nursing. As a registered nurse she worked in different labor and delivery settings while completing her nurse midwifery and women’s health nurse practitioner training at Georgetown University in Washington D.C.

Johanna’s goal is to provide the best possible evidence-based care, minimizing unnecessary interventions and to help women make fully informed choices. When she’s not supporting women, she likes to spend time with her family (Tut 7, Miles 9 and husband Tosh), and enjoys yoga, digging in her garden, hiking, biking, rock climbing and anything outdoors.

Sarah is a 2nd year midwifery student at Florida School of Traditional Midwifery. She was born and raised in a small town in upstate New York where she originally started working with infants. Sarah’s interest in birth originated from watching puppies be born as her father bred them for the local K9 unit for years. The dream started as a labor and delivery nurse and transpired into becoming a midwife after moving to Florida and witnessing her sister’s home birth experience. She started working at a birth center as an assistant while finishing the necessary credentials to be accepted into the midwifery program. Since then, she has worked at multiple birth centers and home birth practices around Florida. Her ultimate goal and passion is to safely bring beautiful babies earthside while being in the comfort of the family’s home. Sarah enjoys cooking, gardening, and being outdoors with her partner and pup.

Lauren Johnson has been a birthworker for over a decade serving Central Florida with doula, lactation, and placenta encapsulation services. She has 5 children and has given birth in what she likes to call "tour de birth". Her oldest was born in a  hospital,  next at a birth center and her last 3 were born at home, with Charlie. Midwifery has come full circle for her from being a client to attending the very first Barefoot Doula training, to eventual provider as she has entered the roll as a Student Midwife. Being able to offer the same personalized care to others as she received in an out of hospital setting is critical to her desire to help improve birth outcomes, especially for marginalized folks.

Tiffany found a passion in birth work during her first pregnancy. She became a doula at 7 months pregnant and attended her first birth 6 weeks after her first son was born. While she loved supporting all women in all birth her passion was homebirth and so she decided to become a midwife’s assistant and was trained in a very busy homebirth practice in Pennsylvania. Tiffany loves everything related to the childbearing year and hopes to one day pursue midwifery. She is trained in Spinning Babies, Pelvic Biomechanics , B.E.S.T., Breech Without Borders, and many other specialized trainings. While originally from St. Pete Tiffany has lived the last 10+ years in PA and in Dec 2021, two weeks after her second son was born, she relocated back to Florida. Tiffany is the mom of two young boys and in her free time she enjoys spending time with her family, going to the beach and reading.

Brandi Morales, CLC has always been a strong believer in a woman’s power and ability to give birth. When her sister experienced a traumatic birth in 2013 she took that belief a step further and started her path into birth work as a doula. Brandi provides emotional, physical, and educational support for births in and out of the hospital setting and has a special place in her heart for VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean). Brandi has had the honor to support mothers in their most vulnerable and powerful moments and truly believes that our bodies are not broken! She believes that a positive experience in birth can help ignite a mother's inner strength and confidence that will overflow into motherhood. Brandi regularly attends La Leche League meetings and is a CLC (Certified Lactation Counselor). In addition to doula services Brandi also offers Bengkung belly binding and placenta services.

Rachel Crissman is a wife and mother of 2 who has a passion for helping educate parents for the birth of their children so they can feel confident and prepared. She found this passion by watching friends going through pregnancy and birth with no education and very little information or choice as to how their births were handled. Rachel started as a doula in 2013 attending births and supporting parents hands on, a Certified Lactation Counselor helping them work through breastfeeding hurdles, and added Childbirth Education in 2019. She enjoys hot yoga, good coffee, and before she transitioned to birth work she was a full time professional musical theatre performer and still performs occasionally around the area so, you may see her!
