I was honored to meet Dr. V during a birth center transfer when I was a senior student midwife. A simple transfer for exhaustion from a long labor of a first time mother. I was so impressed with how pleasant Dr. V was as sometimes receiving physicians of transfer clients can be cold, callous, and often downright degrading. Dr. V was patient, kind, and to my utter shock and surprise pushed with my client for nearly 3 hours to help bring her baby earthside. During those 3 hours she used many techniques I had *never* seen an OB attempt- midwife-in-disguise techniques that I had only seen used outside of the hospital. She even sent a nurse for some olive oil at one point! She encouraged me to glove up and had me feel what she was feeling and took the time to explain what she felt the hold up was. It was an excellent learning experience for me, a seamless transfer for my client, and the beginning of a great professional relationship! Needless to say my client got her unmedicated vaginal birth, and I left that hospital with a full heart! If we could have more physicians like Dr V, truly collaborative care would be a reality and patients would be the ones to really reap the benefits.
"I opened new horizons OB/Gyn in 2003 to offer women and their growing families a respectful place to receive care. I was a labor and delivery nurse for quite a few years before going to medical school. And before that I ran a title 10 Family Planning clinic for the Federation for Community Planning in Cleveland , Ohio out of the Cleveland Free Clinic. We served a largely teen and indigent client base.
During those years I learned that just because women wanted to make different decisions about their bodies and health care, didn't mean they didn't want good care or safe care. They wanted to make educated decisions, no matter what their emotional or financial resources were. So I learned to help meet their needs where they were and not where I was.
We have an open and relaxed office space with a lot of natural light. Toys for kids and kids books. My staff likes kids, have raised or are raising families themselves. We get it!
I have helped women who want family births and water births, with or without doula care, with or without words, or noise , but within the structure of a hospital . I have many families who have birthed with me several times. One family four times. One six. I have delivered vaginal twins many times when the babies positions are favorable, and am proud to say that I have cared for dozens of twin moms' and even have delivered triplets last year, and this year was able to help that mom with a natural birth for a VBAC.

My practice is different in all the good ways. My staff and I truly provide compassionate care with a personal touch. We invest in establishing a rapport with our families, not just the women.
