Honoring Pregnancy Loss this October
As part of our mission at the Community Roots Collective we honor October as Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness month. We invite you to join the several local events hosted by the Roots and other local support services this October to hold space for you in your loss journey.
This year we will be sharing space again with our friends from the local chapters of A.M.E.N.D. Tampa and HOPE Mommies Tampa Bay. We also join The Finley Project and Full Cycle Loss Support for an informal heart sharing circle this year. Please read about the events below and if you are experiencing or have experienced loss know there is support for you in your community.
If you are not local to Tampa, find an event near you by visiting http://www.october15th.com/.
What is Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month?
In 1988, President Ronald Reagan made a profound statement:
'When a child loses his parent, they are called an orphan. When a spouse loses her or his partner, they are called a widow or widower. When parents lose their child, there isn’t a word to describe them. This month [October] recognizes the loss so many parents experience across the United States and around the world. It is also meant to inform and provide resources for parents who have lost children due to miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, molar pregnancy, stillbirths, birth defects, SIDS, and other causes.'

All are welcome to participate in this special day of love and remembrance. Our 2nd Annual Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day is a day for all grieving parents to be surrounded by love and support from their friends, family, and community. It is a day to not only reflect on the loss but to also embrace love and healing.
Community Roots Collective invites your family and friends to spend this special day with us in remembrance of these angels.
We will gather for a 1 mile family walk along the Riverwalk. We will have snacks and water, a community art project for remembering our babies, musical accompaniment, and families sharing their stories. Each attendee will go home with a seed card. We will finish the night by releasing flowers into the river.
All walkers will need tickets. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids up to age 15. Children being worn or pushed in strollers are free to attend. There is a playground for any children in attendance. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2nd-annual-pregnancy-infant-loss-awareness-family-walk-tickets-45617070887
