What are my VBAC options in Tampa, St Pete, Spring Hill, and beyond?
Sometimes babies need to be born via c-section. Often following that c-section mother’s will be told they MUST deliver any subsequent babies via a repeat c-section. This is not the case for most and with cesarean rates locally well above 30% we are committed to supporting families planning vaginal births after cesareans.
The American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecologists , better known as ACOG, supports a trial of labor after cesarean for women with 1 or 2 previous low transverse incisions however the clinical data suggests many other women with histories of more cesareans or special scars should potentially still be given the option for VBAC vs repeat cesarean. For information about VBAC options we recommend families check out our local ICAN chapter as well as VBACfacts.com for current literature, support groups, and birth stories.
For families considering a VBAC we offer home birth services in the right circumstances as well as our prenatal care only option. We encourage families desiring a VBAC in hospital to deliver with the midwives from the USF group at Tampa General or if you are farther north with the midwives from Bayfront Springhill. Even if you plan to deliver in hospital we can still provide excellent prenatal and postpartum care as well as comprehensive childbirth education and labor support options. We accept Medicaid and our self pay rates are incredibly affordable to increase access to personalized care for ALL families.
Overall each year our practice has about an 80% vaginal birth success rate for families planning VBACs. Families can rest assured that we will help them to arm themselves with all of the tools necessary to have the highest likelihood of a vaginal birth whenever possible and that if they were to need a repeat cesarean that it was truly a last resort (or a decision THEY get to make.) Our prenatal care is personalized to each individuals needs. We take extra time to get to know clients personally, understand their pregnancy and birthing desires, and we pride ourselves on being VBAC friendly and not just VBAC tolerant.
